- Retired educator and public servant with experience ranging from farm work and trucking to teaching math, school administration, and statewide education leadership
- Former Assistant Principal, State Education Agency Department Director, Superintendent of Schools, and Director of Research & Training for the NC School Boards Association
- Developed and managed two computer enterprises.
- Member and Sunday School teacher at Poplar Springs Baptist Church
- Father of two, grandfather of four
Education
- Duke University — B.A. Mathematics, minor in Economics
- UNC–Chapel Hill — Ph.D. Educational Administration & Research, supporting field in Public Finance
