Emily Rodriguez

Emily Rodriguez is the progressive candidate for Champaign County Board District 8.

Emily is a Midwest native, educator, graduate student, and organizer. Over the years, she has taken on leadership roles as Chair of the Champaign Citizen Police Review Subcommittee and as an Administrator at the grassroots activist group CU Indivisible. Her record shows she fights diligently for progressive policies that help the most vulnerable. Over the years, I’ve worked to make Champaign-Urbana a better place as the Chair of the Citizen Review Subcommittee, an instructor at UIUC, and as an administrator at the grassroots activist group CU Indivisible.

For the past decade, 25% of our neighbors have been trapped below the poverty level. That’s much higher than any comparable county in Illinois, and it means Champaign County needs to make a change.

Our County Board has been bogged down by outdated ideas and lethargic leadership. Voters in Champaign County have given Democrats a clear mandate to govern in recent elections, and it's time to make good on our promises.

Emily is fighting for 5 policies, but they all aim to fix the same problem: Poverty. Read more about that plan for progress here.

The goal is to break the generational cycle of poverty and reduce its harms. When we give struggling communities a safety net, we expand our tax base and become less reliant on the wealthiest 1% of taxpayers for revenue. A truly stable budget is one that works for everyone.
