My name is Elias Benda and I am a born and raised Adams Morgan resident running for ANC 1C03. This city has changed dramatically in my lifetime, and I am running for ANC because I believe we need young leadership focused on inclusion to advocate for racial, social and economic justice alongside investments in public spaces and parks, affordable housing, and transportation.
As Commissioner, I will advocate for:
- Converting 18th Street in Adams Morgan into a pedestrian park closed to cars, with dedicated space for biking and outdoor business.
- Increasing access to public transportation by expanding Bikeshare stations, protected bike-lanes, micro-mobility access and equity, and the elimination of Bus and Metro fares, at least for those who need it.
- Continuing the fight to protect the public space at SunTrust Plaza and advocating for its expansion.
- Filling the vacant retail on 18th and across Adams Morgan by creating opportunities for local businesses, especially those owned and operated by people of color.
- Installing a permanent memorial at the Walter Pierce Park Cemeteries to commemorate the often forgotten African American soldiers and citizens buried there.
There is a limit of $25 donation per person for ANC races.
