I was in a rough spot a year ago. Trump had just been elected, and I was afraid of the threats he’d made against my undocumented community, and other marginalized people come Inauguration Day.
Working for a nonprofit that made big claims on what we were called to do “for such a time as this,” I put my heart and soul into supporting grassroots organizing from the bottom up for 3 months – only to end up fired at the end of it because my strategies didn’t align with theirs.
But my people showed up for me. And one of those communities was Momentum.
During a time when I felt alone and rejected, I was invited to join the Momentum Digital Community of Practice. There, I found other digital organizers who were doing work in the ways I had imagined – in the ways I knew we needed to shift towards in order for us to raise consciousness at mass scale, and empower our communities to organize themselves and intersect their struggles so we can win real change.
This week, I had the opportunity to attend a full Momentum training, and what I love best about this community is the people I meet and befriend. My learning circle (go #QuietStorm!) was full of compassionate, experienced critical thinkers, constantly questioning theories and practice, and committed to experimenting and learning side-by-side.
The Momentum community has already dramatically increased my confidence by validating many of my experience-based ideas about organizing people power. Now, I’m even more excited to expand my knowledge and dream outside the box with a group of people whom I trust will constructively challenge me and help us continue to grow and evolve our movements.
In order to do that, Momentum needs the people to show up!
Will you support me in raising $500 by Dec. 18 so they can take these trainings across the country, and expand our community of practice to include more people with experiences across the spectrum of social justice organizing?
