Due to systemic racism, Black and brown communities are disproportionately impacted by urban gun violence, police violence and inadequate preventive and responsive health care. We must EMPOWER the vulnerable to LIVE FREE!

Masks for the People AND/OR #BringTheHEAT will saves lives!

#MasksForThePeople

Masks for the People was born from the idea that leaders in directly impacted communities must begin to develop supply chains and information systems to help overcome these barriers. The campaign, a joint project of LIVE FREE, Black Church Action Fund and Empower Initiative, seeks to secure free masks, sanitizers and testing kits to communities who are otherwise unable to access them.

This global pandemic of COVID-19 has ravaged Black and Brown communities. Black and Brown communities comprise a disproportionate number of Americans with underlying health conditions and a frayed safety net. They are more likely to be sick, without health coverage and without access to stable housing and protection. Your donations will help us secure PPE for the most vulnerable communities across the country as long as this pandemic persists.

#BRINGTHEHEAT

The antiquated policing system, whose roots were founded in slave patrols and legalized terrorism of Black people, has experienced a diversity of reforms, but the institutional culture remains inherently racist. #Bringtheheat is an organizing strategy for ending police violence & transforming the public safety system in the USA, existing as part of the LIVE FREE Campaign. H.E.A.T is an acronym that provides a change theory for dismantling the existing racist policing structures around hiring, equipment, accountability, and training.

Additonally, #BringTheHEAT emerges from a centuries long American problem of police brutality and criminalization. We believe public recorded commitments by Mayors, Police Chiefs. Sheriffs and Police Union Presidents to not hire or to fire racists who are cops is a necessary minimum threshold for law enforcement in 2020. We do not believe all cops are racists. And they deserve to not be discredited by the misconduct and racist actions of the few. Therefore, we must be assured in 2020, no racist can be a cop.
