State Representative Daniel Hernandez is running to succeed retiring Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in this district based around Tucson and its suburbs. He previously served as an intern for former Rep. Gabby Giffords (who held this seat for five years) and is largely credited with saving her life in those initial critical moments after a shooter attempted to take her life. When elected, Daniel will be the first openly LGBTQ Mexican American ever elected to Congress.
