Bondi has directed the DOJ to criminally investigate anyone providing or supporting gender-affirming care to minors—including parents, doctors, and clinics. New footage shows Bill Essayli directing FBI agents to detain Sen. Padilla. The detention of the California US Senator has sparked national outrage. Activists across the country are calling upon California's Senators to block Essayli's confirmation as US Attorney for the Central District.
Elected official across the state have joined the movement. For example, Politico reported that Rep. Pete "Aguilar said Essayli’s conduct at the [Sec. Noem] presser means he is not fit to be fully confirmed for the post.
“There are a lot of senators who were unfamiliar with Bill Essayli’s background,” Aguilar said. “So I do think that it’s high time that senators on both sides of the aisle should start scrutinizing his actions specifically related to this event.”
Separately, Speaker Rivas has also called out Essayli calling him "small and petty man."
