Orange is the color hunters wear in the woods. They want to be seen and protect themselves and others from harm. Hadiya Pendleton was a 15 year-old high school student shot and killed in her hometown of Chicago. Her friends decided to honor her life by wearing orange. June 2nd was her birthday, and June 2nd has become National Gun Violence Awareness Day. People across the nation wear orange that day to honor Hadiya and other victims of gun violence and show their willingness to address this problem. BUT one day every year is not enough. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, with chapters in every state, continues this campaign against gun violence throughout the year. Our work involves elevating the voices of survivors of gun violence, educating parents and others who take care of children about safe practices through our simple 5 step BeSmart program, and training gun sense activists. This year, in addition to organizing and participating in Wear Orange events, Moms is running our first ever Wear Orange fundraising drive to support our work. Do Wear Orange on June 2nd, but please contribute now to support gun sense policies and invest in a future free from gun violence..
