In 2022 Tony Vargas challenged incumbent Don Bacon, losing by just 6,000 votes. Tony is challenging him again in 2024.
Bacon has come out in favor of a national abortion ban and denying access to birth control belying his reputation as a moderate.
Bio:Tony served Nebraskans as an elected official for over a decade. A former public school science teacher, Tony began his career in public service on the Omaha School Board. In 2016, he became the first Latino Democrat elected to serve in the Nebraska Legislature.
As a state senator, Tony developed a reputation for civility and working to solve problems for Nebraska families and small businesses. He successfully passed legislation to strengthen public schools, improve access to health care, encourage technology and innovation, and improve consumer protections.
