Foreign Policy for America

FP Action Network: Zach Dembo (KY-06)

Zach Dembo is a former U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps officer and federal civil rights prosecutor who has dedicated his career to public service and defending the Constitution. Raised in Lexington, Zach later joined Teach for America, teaching eighth-grade English in the Mississippi Delta. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Michigan and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, where he served more than four years on active duty providing legal counsel to military commands and service members. Following his military service, he joined the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division as a federal prosecutor, traveling the country to enforce civil and constitutional rights. In 2020, he returned to Kentucky to serve as a policy advisor and later legislative director for Governor Andy Beshear. Most recently, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Lexington, prosecuting federal crimes in his hometown, before resigning in response to the increasing politicization of the Justice Department.
