FP Action Network: Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-Sen)

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, becoming the first immigrant from South America and the first Ecuadorian American to serve in Congress. She served one term and was an influential advocate for U.S. foreign policy related to the Western Hemisphere. Prior to serving in Congress, Debbie worked for several non-profits and served as the Director of Development at Florida International University (FIU) before becoming the Associate Vice President and then Associate Dean of the FIU Wertheim College of Medicine. She later served as a Special Advisor to the United States during the 2022 Summit of the Americas. In the Senate, Debbie would be a powerful supporter of diplomacy and a leader on policies that support global democracy, protect access to asylum and legal immigration, and meaningfully address the climate crisis.
