Foreign Policy for America

FP Action Network: Marilyn Strickland (WA-10)

Marilyn Strickland was first elected to the U.S. Congress in 2020, becoming the first African American to represent Washington State at the federal level and the first Korean American woman to be elected to Congress. Previously, Marilyn served on the Tacoma City Council, the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce, and as Mayor of Tacoma. As a representative from the most trade-dependent state in the nation, Marilyn's priorities include implementing smart trade policies, strengthening our relationships with Asian countries, and developing a practical and achievable response to the humanitarian crisis at the southern border. In the 118th Congress, Marilyn serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She is the Chair of the New Democrat Coalition's National Security Task Force and serves as a Whip for the Congressional Black Caucus.
