Freedom Overground’s long-term mission is to ensure the safety and dignity of the incarcerated TGNCI-LGBQA community. Freedom Overground works to amplify the voices of incarcerated TGNCI-LGBQA people by;
- Working with organizations to end the criminalization and over-policing of the TGNCI community
- Training staff of correctional facilities on the proper treatment of incarcerated TGNCI people
- Training and support reentry organizations to support returning citizens.
- Working to empower the trans community before, during, and after incarceration.
- Before - Work with TGNCI youth to educate them on safety and how to avoid becoming justice-involved.
- During- We help navigate the prison system to receive trans-related medical care, safe housing, gender-affirming items, therapy and know their rights.
- After- We begin re-entry transitional care prior to release by working with organizations to ensure there are no gaps in care while transitioning into society.
We are seeking funds for the Freedom Overground Inside Outreach Project. Over the last year, we’ve identified, contacted, and provided resources for 120 incarcerated TGNCI-LGBQA people. We know there are an estimated 1,500 TGNCI-LGBQA people incarcerated in Georgia. This project would allow us to identify, contact, and provide support to those people.

- Resources - educational books, clothing packages, gender-affirming clothing, and personal items
