Hello!
As someone who comes from a family who has always been engaged in the community, working as activists on behalf of others. My mother served as President of the Roanoke Branch of the NAACP and my father was a former pastor at Pilgrim Baptist Church. I’ve always seen myself growing into the same role, to serve the community. I’m running for Roanoke City Council because there are three areas that I can make a difference: education, economic development and community development. Because everyone is not going to college, after graduation, many will choose to go right into the workforce. We need to ensure that our students are workforce ready for the 21st Century. As a small business owner, I understand the difficulties in cash flow and what it takes to sustain and grow. I would like to create a microlending program. With a community as diverse and engaged as ours, our organizations, whether it is a neighborhood association or social-service organization, do not talk to one another. I want to bring all the organizations together so that we can talk, learn and grow from one another.
