I am running for re-election in 2024 to continue to represent the people of Riverside and Barrington in House District 66. During my first legislative session as a lawmaker in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, I sponsored 13 bills. Four of them were common-sense gun safety bills, one was a voting bill, plus I had several environmental bills, and a bill to help new small businesses. Two of my bills passed: a new law to encourage greater youth participation in the electoral process (17-year-olds can vote in a primary election as long as they are registered to vote and will be 18 by the time of the general election.)
The House also passed my resolution to convene a House Study Commission to evaluate school lockdowns, fire drills and the associated mental health impacts on students. I chaired this commission, and in 2024 my bill to reform school drills was signed by Governor McKee. I also sponsored and passed legislation to regulate electric bicycles, update our alcoholism statutes, synchronize state funding for the City of East Providence, add climate change, sea-level rise and coastal resiliency to the analysis of data of the strategic plan for economic development policy, and more.
I have been appointed to two House committees: Environment and Natural Resources Committee
and Innovation, Internet and Technology Committee and have been appointed to attend meetings convened by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
I have much more work to do protecting the environment, defending against climate change and coastal erosion, passing common-sense gun legislation, looking out for children and families, and speaking up for small businesses.
Will you pitch in today so I can continue to represent Riverside and Barrington?
