My name is Jose Giral.
I was born in Puerto Rico and moved to New York with my mother at the age of three. We lived together in Brooklyn for several years. Having grown up in a single-parent household in a poor neighborhood, I have witnessed the impact that crime and drugs have on a community. After graduating high school in 1989, I joined the workforce and eventually moved on to start my own small business. I chose the city of Philadelphia as I saw great potential in it. I have lived in both Kensington and Juniata over the last 20 years, and Philadelphia has become the place that I call home. While establishing my roots as an entrepreneur, I looked for ways that I could give back to my community. I have found that the best way to give back is to get involved. I've done so by becoming a community activist, volunteering for the 24th district PDAC, becoming a democratic committeeperson for the 33rd ward serving over eight years, and in 2015 being appointed by Governor Tom Wolf as a Commissioner for the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. In addition, I was voted by Impacto Newspaper as the Most Influential Latino in the Delaware Valley in the same year. Since then, I was elected to serve as the Representative for the 180th legislative district in 2022. Now running for my second term, I currently sit on the committees of Aging & Older Adult Services, Game & Fisheries, Human Services, Labor & Industry, and Liquor Control. This year I had the honor to be nominated as the Ward Leader for the 33 rd ward. Finally, I am an active member of the National Conference of State Legislators. Thank you for your continued support.
