Today, we have an opportunity to do something tangible for justice. Together, we can restore the right to vote for 5,000 returning citizens in Florida before November’s election.
The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC) sponsored constitutional Amendment 4 that led to the restoration of the vote to 1.4 million Floridians with felony convictions in 2018. It was the largest voting rights expansion in over 50 years. However, the state legislature responded by passing a law requiring returning citizens to pay off outstanding fees, and fines, associated with their convictions prior to being eligible to vote.
As part of its Election Protection initiative under President CK Hoffler, Esq., the National Bar Association, the oldest and largest organization of black attorneys in the country, has joined with FRRC to put more people on the voting rolls by launching a national fundraiser on behalf of returning citizens.
We can do this.
One voter at a time.
