In 2018, Students for Gun Legislation was founded to provide young people with a place to organize and advocate against gun violence, both in Ohio and across the nation. We brought together thousands of young Ohioans and allies and helped advance legislation at the local, state, and federal levels, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022. Our work resulted in a personal invitation to the White House for the signing of the historic legislation, the first major piece of federal gun reform in nearly 40 years.

But our biggest hurdle to gun safety was the Ohio Legislature. A body that has been completely bought out by the NRA and groups like the Buckeye Firearm Association. These right-wing organizations continue to buy our legislators, and not only prevent gun safety laws from passing, but they also advance the kind of bills that make our state even more dangerous. From permitless open carry to state preemption laws, the legislature has made each of us less and less safe.

That’s how Future Without Fear was born. We recognize that Ohio needs to change the narrative on gun safety, and to do that, we must flip state legislative seats in Columbus. We are a state-level Political Action Committee that will spend on mailers, digital, TV, and radio to help elect a gun-sense majority in Columbus.
