Rev. Julián Jamaica Soto is a Unitarian Universalist minister, and activist for racial, trans/queer, and disability justice. They wrote Spilling the Light: Meditations on Hope and Resilience in 2019, which quickly became a favorite source for chalice lightings, meditations, poems, and prayers for UUs across the world, and is heading towards its 5th printing. Rev. Soto has served on the Journey Towards Wholeness Transformation Team, the Presidential Search Committee, the Creative Council at enfleshed, and as Interim Senior Associate for Justice Education at the UU College of Social Justice. They have worked in parish ministry, interim ministry, and hospital chaplaincy with veterans, and their public theology practice has truly made them a "Minister's Minister," beloved by religious professionals. Soto lives in the Pacific Northwest, and seeks to serve the mission and values of Unitarian Universalism, along with the healing of the world.
This fundraiser supports the work of Unitarian Universalist Justice Arizona Network (UUJAZ); engaging UUs in Arizona in social change and putting our values into action, and Julián's ongoing ministry.
FAQ: Will this book be available after the event? Can I buy a book without an event ticket?
Short answer: We aren't sure yet.
Long answer: All proceeds from this book and fundraiser are shared, in order to support UUJAZs work in Arizona, and Julián's ongoing ministry to all of us.
After the event ends, it's possible there will be remaining books that Julián can choose to distribute if they can, especially to folks who can't afford the cost of the ticket. To be transparent, we haven't yet raised enough money to cover even close to the time Julián spent writing, so we want to get them paid for that, first.
When choosing whether to purchase an event ticket in order to reserve a book, or to wait, we want to invite you to think about the cost of printing and shipping the books, and the cost of the labor of Julián mailing them out, and if you are able, then please purchase a ticket to support that cost.
We definitely know there are folks who aren't able to afford a ticket or a book, and we are hopeful enough of our UU community is able to contribute to the fundraiser, to offset that cost soon!
