Today on NYC's streets, there are approximately 8,500 homeless LGBTQ+ youth that we know of, and statistics estimate up to 40% of homeless youth nationwide identify as LGBTQ+ Through our free legal services, advocacy, and community education, we help young people secure the public benefits, legal immigration status, housing, name changes, and family law resources they need to survive and thrive.
Our goal at the Free to Be Youth Project is to interrupt the cycles of poverty and criminalization that prevent homeless and street-involved young people from living fulfilling lives free from discrimination, abuse, and oppression. This Giving Tuesday, the Free to BE Youth Project is partnering with the Oasis Center, the only queer centered youth crisis intervention center in Tennessee, to bridge the gap between urban and rural queer advocacy.
