Being a working-poor candidate means Maya really puts in the vision, work, joy and walking shoes, and that community support is simply everything.

We've already seen this community prove we can elect Maya, with her successful campaign for Whatcom County Charter Review Commission in District 2 in 2024, garnering the highest vote numbers in District 2 out of eight candidates, and the second highest votes of Dem Charter Review Candidates running across all districts!

Let's do this, community. It's time to get moving!

Note: THANK YOU, COMMUNITY! We raised that filing fee insurance fund, and Maya filed! She knocked over 2,500 doors and gathered 814 signatures to file for office by People's Signature Petition to be added to the ballot.

On May 6th, these were successfully filed with the Whatcom County Auditor and the Secretary of State, and our County elections staff quickly reviewed each signature, and went back and double-triple-quadruple checked!

Maya offered a neat stack of 54 pages with 814 signatures, and it was rejected, with the Auditor's office reporting that after nearly 70 signatures were deemed invalid for various reasons, it was rejected just 18 signatures short of being accepted in lieu of a filing fee.

Maya knew this mechanism of filing was inequitable, and she wanted to test it in the most methodical and diligent way she could think of! By literally going door to door IN her district –and that means EVERY door, not just Democratic doors –and asking for voters to support her in filing to run for office.

No one has succeeded yet in using this method locally. Maya's take: we've simply got to change this law. Period. It's not a people's remedy.

This is an example of how Maya moves. She doesn't just talk. She WALKS the talk.
