Last week at the U.N. Summit on Climate Change President Biden vowed to implement strategies to reduce methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than CO2.

But did you know that Texas is the largest emitter of methane in the U.S? At the same time, Texas is the U.S. leader in wind-generated, electricity production, and Texas is a national leader in its increased production of electricity from solar energy.

To get to the point, any U.S. solution on Climate Change must be Texas centered.

*I spearheaded the effort to create the Texas Climate Plan, found here:

*I amended the budget to require the Comptroller to identify current workforce retraining opportunities and job opportunities for clean energy jobs in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission.

*I assembled a Texas Climate Youth Corps to engage tomorrow’s leaders in our work of creating a sustainable planet.

I see my job as helping to be a conduit for change--to use my position on the inside to pull levers and gather data that help enable progress. When our communities are empowered with reliable information, they use their networks to spread the word and create momentum for change.

The pandemic and successive legislative sessions have limited these opportunities for organizing. Now we’re back and we’re back in a big way. You are part of that work. We are the “tip of the spear,” in the fight to preserve a livable planet, to preserve voting rights, to protect our public schools, defend LGBTQ rights, a woman’s right to bodily autonomy, etc...

For these reasons, because I believe in our power to make positive change, I have decided to run for re-election. If you are in a position to support, please contribute to my re-election campaign.
