You can boost the power of girls and women! #AmplifiHER in 2017! Please give!
Girls Rock Campaign Boston, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to empower girls and women to believe in themselves by providing a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence and collaboration through music education and performance, has achieved important milestones this past year. We need your help to continue expanding and improving the work that we do!
Our fierce community of participants, volunteers, parents, interns and board is unrelenting in the commitment to this mission. NOW MORE THAN EVER, we understand how important it is for girls to find their voice and to use it to create social change. The girls who experience GRCB grasp firmly their POWER TO SHINE in the face of sexism, discrimination and oppression. Your contribution will help #AMPLIFIHER and empower girls age 8-17 into their futures. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by December 31st - please make your donation today!
As we head into our seventh year - and a new era of uncertainty for girl’s and women’s rights - we remain unshrinking in our work. Please help us reach our fundraising goal so that we can continue to boost the power of girls and women.
This year we want to expand the reach our our mission and take steps to ensure the sustainability this organization. Here is some of what we will accomplish with your support:
PROMOTE YOUTH LEADERSHIP: In 2016, we deepened the impact of Girls Rock Campaign Boston by creating The Youth Advisory Board (YABFAB): 10 girls, ages 14-17, collaborate with the Program Director, board members, and leadership volunteers to develop and diversify our programming. The YABFAB was formed with the goal of vocalising the needs of youth and is a year-round leadership channel for youth involved in GRCB programs. The YABFAB work fosters leadership skills and their input directly influences the programming we offer.
Additionally we are committing to fostering youth leadership by continuing to increase the capacity for our summer internship program. In 2016 we had the largest class of interns since the program began in 2012. Through the intern program, we are fostering their confidence and collaboration skills as they support their assigned instrument instructor team. Additionally, we are developing their skills in research and facilitation as they prepare a Media Literacy workshop. With your support we will able to grow our intern program in 2017 by expanding the program to include intern positions that focus on technical roles such as gear repair, sound engineering, and recording.
Through our YAB and summer internship program, GRCB has developed 20 youth leadership roles in our organization. Our goal is to continue to engage the youth currently in these positions while gathering feedback from the youth involved to grow these programs in 2017.
EXTENDED YEAR ROUND PROGRAMMING: In 2017 we will foster opportunities to bring our programs into schools in the Boston area and expand enrollment for Club GRCB. The expansion of our year round program offerings will not only allow us to engage new girls in our mission but also afford us the opportunity to continue to develop and execute an expanded model of our afterschool programming.
By providing more frequent and consistent opportunities for girls and women to take courageous creative risks, find and trust their voices, forge positive relationships with peers and mentors and be supported by their peers and mentors, we are working to more effectively inspire girls to change the way they think about their own potential and give more girls and women a voice in our society, a key element in combating gender inequality and bringing about social change.
LOOKING FORWARD TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: A huge cause for celebration is the addition of our two new staff positions! As GRCB continues to grow each year, it has been apparent that we need to have additional staff people to support the directors and volunteers of GRCB. These positions are an opportunity to develop and implement projects aimed to refine GRCB operations and effectiveness while expanding year round programming. The addition of new staff members will allow for our work to be more efficient and counter many of the limitations we have faced as we work to expand our reach, thus helping GRCB continue on as a sustainable, year round organization!

About Girls Rock Campaign Boston
Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) empowers girls to believe in themselves by providing a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through musical education and performance.
In week-long sessions run by adult female community volunteers, girls gain meaningful life skills of collaboration, problem solving, and positive self-expression in a creative, supportive environment. During each session, girls meet and form bands, learn how to play an instrument (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, or vocals), compose original songs and perform live to hundreds of family, friends and community members at a prominent local rock venue - all in one week’s time.
GRCB provides daily workshops geared towards self-esteem building, self-reflection and expression every morning. In the process of collaborating with their bands, girls are encouraged to share their ideas as well as listen to each other, think critically, negotiate, and participate in conflict resolution--all essential life skills that help them succeed in their future goals and activities as they mature.
Providing a safe space for girls and women, GRCB hopes to become a key element in fostering leadership and confidence as girls transition into adult lives. Though we at GRCB are excited when girls continue to play their instruments and express themselves through music, our programming is far more based in self-esteem building. The main objective is for a change in behavior in girls who had previously felt held back from pursuing their own goals or interests, whether starting a band, creating a winning science fair project, excelling in a sport, or running for student government.
