In 2020, we faced crises like never before. As if the climate crisis wasn't enough, the COVID-19 pandemic has tested our resiliency, and the violent repression of anti-police brutality protests has tested our complacency.
At Sunrise Bay Area, we stood strong, in solidarity with our partners fighting against institutional racism, and for the people hardest hit by the pandemic. When COVID hit, we fundraised over $35,000 for partner organizations, and provided over $15,000 in grants to other Sunrise hubs in need. In the summer, hundreds of our members showed up for protests against police violence and white supremacy, standing with other BIPOC-led movements for change. We launched a podcast and spearheaded an electoral fellowship, leveling up dozens of young, local organizers across our community and helping to elect grassroots organizer Carrol Fife for Oakland City Council.
In 2021, we are committed to change, growing our hub and movement towards a future of equity, renewable-energy and anti-racism. We are kicking off the decade of the Green New Deal, and we need your help!
