Raise the GPA

Generation for Political Action is founded on the principle that decisions are made by those who show up.

What?

GPA will create change by uniting of a network of young professionals supporting inclusive, progressive candidates in Virginia. Our journey begins with participation in local state delegate races through tactical campaign support in 2017. GPA offers a comfortable and enjoyable way for individuals to get involved no matter their level of familiarity with the political process.

Races are selected based on where we can make the largest impact on holding or winning a seat, including margin of victory and distance from northern Virginia. We will work directly with campaigns to identify how we support them and to execute volunteer training.

Who?

Our organization is the brainchild of a small group of talented and passionate individuals. We are women and men, scientists and writers, leaders and rule breakers, coming together in the aftermath of the 2016 election.

How?

We’re bringing young professionals into politics with a twist on conventional organizing by pairing campaign actions with social activities and adventures (from hikes to happy hours, potlucks to trivia), building a community through a robust events schedule, as well as an active digital media presence.

Why?

The 2016 election created a unique opportunity to engage those who want to make a difference, but are intimidated by or new to the process. GPA will bridge the gap between the grassroots momentum that surfaced after the election and state level candidates seeking revamped involvement. GPA will primarily focus on supporting the Democratic bench at the state and local candidate level.

Getting to a 4.0 GPA:

  1. Support 2 state delegate campaigns in 2017, helping to take back seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates through a minimum of 4 canvassing events paired with social activities a month

  2. Recruit and support 40 active members by November 2017

  3. Establish best practices for events and campaign support, building a model that can be implemented across the country
