I am Grant Veeder and I am seeking re-election as Black Hawk County Auditor. I am running on my record of integrity and good service, and I hope to continue to work cooperatively with the staff in my office, with other departments in the county, with other county auditors, with government officials throughout Iowa and the nation, and with the public.
The most prominent aspect of my multifaceted office is elections, in which I have extensive background. As most people understand, the election system administered by Iowa county auditors is not involved in the Iowa caucuses. The problems encountered in that process this year emphasize what we already know: Even if an election is conducted on the up-and-up, technological problems and poor administration result in a lack of public confidence in election outcomes, whether vote totals are affected or not.
My staff and I have worked diligently to keep up with new laws, new technology, and constantly evolving threats to make sure that your vote will be counted accurately. On my watch, the county has taken advantage of protection against cyber threats made available through the Department of Homeland Security, the Iowa Office of the Chief Information Officer, and the Iowa Secretary of State.
My experience has led to a deep involvement with elections at the local, state and national levels:
My accumulated knowledge, insight and analytical skills have made me a reliable source of good advice, which along with my dedication and work ethic have led to long associations with the following professional groups:
As an active leader in the local community, I am or have been deeply involved in the following organizations:
