Mission Statement

Grassroots Leadership works for a more just society where prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization are things of the past. One day, we envision a safe and healthy city, state, and world where people have agency over their lives and their lives are not interrupted by prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization. Every day, Grassroots Leadership staff, members, and allies get up to build power in communities, change policies and practices of mass incarceration and deportation, transform the narrative of criminalization, and build a healthy and solvent organization that allows us to achieve our goals.


We recognize that there is still much work to be done to transform the criminal justice and immigration systems, not just in Central Texas, but also across the South and beyond. That's why we're committed to building power within directly impacted communities through our base-building groups, such as Texas Advocates for Justice, ICE Out of Austin, and Mujeres Luchadoras. We sincerely believe that by working together, we can work towards collective liberation.
