Gratitude for the work 💐

Maya's been leading on the policy and advocacy fights for all of our futures, and she is the progressive leader that District 2 Residents truly deserved on our Council. Maya served in a completely uncompensated elected role for our County District 2 in 2025, which was her second run for office! Running for council this year was her third run in three years, with a primary election, so it actually felt like four campaigns!

The election results weren't in our favor in November 2025, with only 45% of county voters casting a ballot. (Ouch! That hurts.)

Compare that to nearly 83% voter turnout last year (2024 general).

But, this result doesn't mean we can stop fighting for us. If anything, the stakes are even higher, and the need is even greater.

This campaign was funded by everyday, working class people, and all of you are amazing!

Maya worked full time – really overtime – to pull off a primary win, and next, to push for a respectable vote share in the general election. She not only had to contend with bizarre and untruthful articles about her penned by the chief editor of the local paper; she also had to fight the local Dem party, an organization Maya had contributed FIVE YEARS of regular meeting attendance, votes, advocacy, and a lot of personal policy work that was used to achieve other elected's wins, without any credit given to Maya. (Yeah, that sucks.)

Your contribution to help pay down what are called "in-kind loans" to the campaign for field work, graphics, and design work.

Many thanks to those who offer Maya these flowers 💐 for running. It means a lot.
