"I'm running for Board of Education to ensure that every child, no matter their background, has the freedom to learn in a safe, well-funded, and inclusive school environment, where teachers are empowered and the community comes together to build a brighter future for all."

As a graduate of Allegany County Public Schools, the husband of a teacher, and a community organizer, I've witnessed the challenges facing our students, teachers, and administrators firsthand - whether overcoming the lingering effects of the pandemic, ensuring that teachers and administrators have the resources that they need, or building community schools that care for the whole child. We must ensure every child has the same opportunities to learn, grow, and feel safe in our schools.

I am running to ensure that our students and teachers can meet these challenges and leverage the once-in-a-generation opportunities presented by the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.

Your donation will help me to realize this vision for 21st century schools that prepare our students for the environmental, economic, political, and societal challenges facing our communities and the world.

If elected, I will:

  • Work with community partners to develop a community school pilot program that incorporates the wraparound services needed by our children;
  • Work with my fellow Board members, administration, and teachers to reimagine the professional development opportunities available to teachers to encourage continuous advancement that will provide our students the best, most qualified teachers possible;
  • Ensure that ACPS successfully implements the Blueprint in these initial years of planning to maximize the investment in our children's' futures;
  • Convene a classroom management working group to address longstanding classroom management challenges faced by teachers, including advocating and triaging students to early intervention and community resources as appropriate and updating outdated discipline policies to better support students, teachers, and parents alike;
  • Stand firm against book bans and other measures that seek to limit critical thinking and the diversity of thought;
  • Advocate for enhanced student services, including mental health resources, to address the effects of the pandemic, promote the health and safety of our students, eliminate the achievement gap, and help create a safe and positive learning environment for all students; and
  • Advocate for transparency, responsiveness, and community engagement in funding decisions and the development and implementation of policies.
