As the proud son of Greek immigrants, Gus Lambropoulos was raised in Astoria and learned the value of hard work and perseverance from his parents. Despite their financial struggles, they found a way forward as his father joined a labor union, providing good wages and healthcare, which helped fulfill their dream of a better life for their children.
Gus earned his MBA and has extensive business and financial sector experience, where he has advocated for small business owners and consumers. Gus has a track record of getting things done as he championed the passage of The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that provided common-sense protections to reform the financial sector in response to the Global Financial Crisis. His efforts helped neighborhood community banks compete against the big banks to level the playing field and reduce costs for small businesses, and fought to reduce consumer credit card fees.
Gus and his wife Maria have three young children and are deeply committed to our community as they volunteer to bring hope and prosperity to their neighbors. They have been instrumental in launching Restaurant Week locally, creating Astoria's annual holiday tree lighting and parade, and making efforts to improve cultural health throughout the area.
