Karina Guzmán Ortiz for Salem-Keizer School Board

I am Karina Guzmán Ortiz and I'm running for Salem-Keizer School District - Zone 5.

I'm a graduate from Salem-Keizer schools, a proud mother of two Salem-Keizer School District students and daughter of dedicated and resilient Mexican immigrants. 

This past year as a working parent I have faced the same challenges so many other parents have with our school buildings closed. As a substitute teacher who has been in classrooms across our district, a former district student myself, and now as a mom I know what it’s like to want our schools to be the best they can be. Right now, unfortunately, our schools are in a crisis.

I’m running because it is imperative that we center the education and livelihood of our children and youth, families and educators. For too long, decisions for our students have been made by people who do not have children in the district- it is time for us, parents, to speak. I’m here to represent all students and families. We need communication between the board and community and I will listen.
