Born out of Meridian High School in Falls Church City VA, Hand to Hunger began by simply packing 30 meals a week for our local food insecure population. Today, Hand to Hunger has grown to support over 43,000 volunteers across our 24 chapters pack over 220,000 meals annually.

What is food insecurity and why should I care?

Food insecurity is the insufficient access to nutritious food needed for a healthy and active life, affecting millions globally due to factors like poverty, resource inequality, and systemic barriers. This issue goes beyond violating basic human rights, leading to hunger, malnutrition, and adverse health outcomes. Beyond immediate suffering, it perpetuates cycles of poverty, hampers economic development, and worsens social inequalities.
