Can you imagine being told you’re not allowed to hold public office?

The Alabama Republican supermajority is pushing SB21 — a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban naturalized U.S. citizens from holding public office in Alabama. It is a direct attack on the 14th Amendment, and on every American who earned their citizenship.

I am one of those Americans.

My name is Hanu Karlapalem. I am a naturalized U.S. citizen, a small technology business owner, a 26-year resident of Madison, Alabama, a UAH graduate, and a Life Member and former Second Vice President of the Limestone County NAACP. I have been married for 31 years and deeply rooted in this community.

I am running for Alabama State House District 4 — because every citizen deserves equal rights, and because North Alabama families deserve a representative who is fighting for them, not against them.

For the first time, District 4 has a real choice. My opponent is a two-term Republican incumbent who has never faced a serious challenger — until now.

With your support, we can flip this seat.

Every dollar goes directly to reaching voters in HD4 — door knocking, yard signs, and getting our message out across Morgan, Limestone, and Madison counties.

District 4 has never had a challenger like this. Help make history.

— Hanu Karlapalem, Candidate for Alabama State House District 4
