Hank has long been in the fight against the affliction of racism and white supremacy.
He sponsored The Police Accountability Act, which would give the Department of Justice the right to prosecute a police officer for wrongly killing a civilian if the state fails to do so.
He sponsored The Grand Jury Reform Act, which would require a special prosecutor to investigate cases where a police officer wrongly killed a civilian, and transparently reveal the investigation findings to the public.
And he sponsored The Cooling Off Period Elimination Act, that would eliminate "cooling off" periods for officers accused of misconduct. It also partially rolls back extra-constitutional privileges and protections police receive.
Hank has been re-introducing these bills for years, and it's finally time that they -- and other reforms -- become law. For 400 years, this country has had its knee on the neck of black communities. It is long past time we remove it.
