Steadily In Our View: An Art Auction & Fundraiser To Benefit Swing Left

Honor Fraser, David Kordansky, Beth DeWoody, Carlton DeWoody, and Brad Jacob are proud to present an art auction to support Swing Left and their Super State strategy, an organization that we believe is doing the necessary hard work on the ground and online to win the most crucial races and where your dollars will go the furthest.

All of the artworks are available for bidding NOW through Tuesday, March 31 at 2 PM EST on Artsy. Please visit www.artsy.net/swingleft.

Works are installed at Honor Fraser Gallery but unfortunately are not viewable in person due to state-wide restrictions. Please contact holly@swingleft.org to see installation shots.

The title of our fundraiser "Steadily In Our View: An Art Auction & Fundraiser To Benefit Swing Left" is derived from what we think is the most meaningful and relatable to the times paragraph in the cover letter from Washington that transmitted the final draft of the Constitution to Congress.  The exact paragraph reads: “In all our deliberations on this subject, we kept steadily in our view that which appears to us the greatest interest of every true American, the consolidation of our Union, in which is involved our prosperity, felicity, safety—perhaps our national existence. This important consideration, seriously and deeply impressed on our minds, led each State in the Convention to be less rigid on points of inferior magnitude than might have been otherwise expected; and thus, the Constitution which we now present is the result of a spirit of amity, and of that mutual deference and concession, which the peculiarity of our political situation rendered indispensable.”

The full letter can be seen here.

Swing Left was founded in January 2017 with a mission to build a lasting culture of grassroots participation in winning elections for Democrats by making it as easy as possible for anyone to participate and have maximum impact on elections. They focus on building out the national infrastructure for Democratic nominees (they do not engage in primaries) by engaging, training, and mobilizing volunteers to organize year-round, fundraise for candidates, turn out and register voters, and by creating innovative technology tools and creative content to shift the political narrative.

For 2020, Swing Left is focused on 12 “Super States,” where their volunteers and donors can have an outsized impact on multiple battlegrounds at once: the Electoral College, the Senate, and state legislatures that control redistricting. The 12 states they are focused on are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin.

In the 2018 cycle, Swing Left focused on taking back the House, and their hundreds of thousands of volunteers knocked 5 million doors, made 2.5 million phone calls, and raised $11 million from grassroots donors directly for House candidates. Swing Left was the largest source of volunteers for the midterms, and this event will help ensure that we can support further growth and coordination of these efforts.
