Javier Mabrey became an eviction defense lawyer after experiencing firsthand the trauma evictions can have on working families. In 2019, he started an eviction defense nonprofit legal aid group that represents tenants in Denver and advocates for affordable housing and tenants' rights at the Colorado State Capitol. If elected, he would be a powerful voice for tenants at a time when the cost of living is skyrocketing in Denver.

The No Eviction Without Representation campaign is a 100% volunteer-run campaign to provide free, universal legal counsel to families facing eviction. Too often, corporate landlords will conduct illegal or unjust evictions on families who don't know their rights, which leads to an increase in homelessness in Denver. Over 9,000 evictions happen every year, and only about 1% of tenants have access to counsel. This ballot initiative would level the playing field, keep families in their homes, and prevent homelessness before it happens.
