HRC Houston's Pro-Equality Champions

embed errored

The stakes have never been higher for advancing equality. Congress and the White House hang in the balance and support for key campaigns NOW is critical to success.

Help Elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz!

  • VP Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz are fierce champions for the LGBTQ+ community, contrasting sharply with Trump's DANGEROUS policies.

HOUSTON priority campaigns

  • Sen. Ted Cruz (R) got just 50.9% of the vote last election, and now faces a strong challenger in Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), a champion for equality.
  • An advocate for 20+ years, Julie Johnson (D-TX) helped defeat scores of bad Texas House bills. She will be the first Out US House member in the South.
  • First-term Rep. Monica de la Cruz (R) voted against every pro-LGBTQ+ issue this Congress. HRC supports her pro-equality challenger, Michelle Vallejo (D-TX).
  • Molly Cook (D-TX-SD15) is a sixth-generation Texan from the Houston area. She is a registered nurse and the first openly LGBTQ Senator in Texas history.
  • Sen. Morgan LaMantia (D-TX-SD27) is a Rio Grande Valley native running for reelection to the Texas Senate this November to work for equality for all.

ALERT: historic U.S. House races

  • First elected in 2020, Mondaire Jones (D-NY) was one of the first two openly LGBTQ+ Black members of Congress. He's running to take back his old seat.
  • Trailblazer Sarah McBride (D-DE) advocates for equality in the state Senate, and will be the nation's first openly transgender member of Congress.
  • Openly gay Will Rollins (D-CA) nearly beat anti-equality, anti-choice Rep. Ken Calvert (R) in 2022. Now Rollins is poised to flip this "toss-up" district.

Top races for U.S. Senate

  • Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) made history as the first LGBTQ+ Senator and is a champion for equality. Deep pocketed Republicans want to unseat her.
  • Longtime ally Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) faces a difficult re-election in Ohio, where he's the only pro-equality elected official holding statewide office.
  • Looking to flip this seat, a self-funding Republican is targeting Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) after the GOP narrowly lost a Senate seat in Pennsylvania in 2022.
  • Election-denying extremist Kari Lake (R) attacks LGBTQ+ youth while Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) stands for equality for all Arizonans and Americans.
  • During her time in the US House, Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) earned a 100% rating from HRC while Sen. Rick Scott (R) always scores flat zero.
  • In 2022, Nevada's Senate race was the closest in the nation, and 2024 will be too. Pro-equality Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) will face a tough GOP opponent.
