Stand with Hagerstown Rapid Response
Hagerstown Rapid Response (HRR) is a volunteer-led grassroots organization rooted in Washington County, Maryland. What began as a small community effort has grown into a network of over 600 members working to protect our neighbors, defend immigrant communities, and hold those in power accountable.
HRR is built around community rapid response, public accountability, and grassroots organizing. We believe our community is strongest when people look out for one another, stay informed, and are willing to stand up when our neighbors' rights and safety are threatened.
Rapid Response
HRR members respond to verified ICE sightings in our area, serving as trained legal observers who document enforcement activity, help preserve information that may be important for legal proceedings, and keep our community informed. Our work emphasizes safety, de-escalation, accurate documentation, and protecting people's rights and due process
.
We are also responding to growing concerns around immigration enforcement infrastructure in our region, including the Department of Homeland Security's purchase of a detention facility in Washington County. HRR has helped secure an indefinite injunction halting renovation work at the site while required legal reviews and other issues are addressed. We remain committed to keeping our community informed and organized as this situation develops.
Writing and Research
Accountability requires knowing what our local government is doing, asking questions, and making information available to the public. HRR's Writing and Research team files Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other public records requests, investigates local government decisions, and works to uncover corruption, questionable spending, and backroom dealings involving county and city officials.
When we obtain information the public deserves to know, we turn that research into blog posts and other materials that help our community understand what's happening behind closed doors. This work takes time, research, and resources. Public records requests can come with fees, and maintaining our websites and domain names costs money. Your support helps us keep digging, publishing, and making information accessible to the people those decisions affect.

Everything HRR does is powered by volunteers, but volunteer labor alone cannot cover the costs of organizing, investigating, communicating, and educating our community.
