TSER's Hormone Replacement Therapy Fund

In January 2024, we launched our new emergency hormone reimbursement program. While there are several transgender surgery scholarship programs, zero reimburse the cost of hormones.

You may request reimbursement at www.transstudent.org/hrtfund

Although the relatively low price of monthly prescriptions may not sound like much, trans people live in poverty at three times the average. One in four trans people are food insecure. We believe that no one should have to choose between food and medication. While reimbursement has its limits, this program is meant as a stopgap while we continue to fight for universal healthcare.

According to recent surveys, 57% of trans people ration their hormones (take less than they are prescribed). One of the primary reasons is cost. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are able to reimburse expenses that align with our mission and not have them affect recipients' taxes or benefits.

This program is exclusively for reimbursing the costs of medication. If you need assistance starting hormone replacement therapy, please check out Point of Pride, the Plume HRT Access Fund, or Folx Health HRT Care Fund.

As little as $1 can provide a month of hormone replacement therapy to a trans person. This fund is 100% volunteer-led and there are no overhead costs. If you would like to help disburse payments and collect receipts, please contact us at tser [at] transstudent.org.
