A year ago, our world turned upside down. Donald Trump had just been elected President, he immediately appointed the avowed white nationalist leader, Steve Bannon as his Chief Strategist, and the future seemed bleak.
In that moment, we watched institutional Jewish leaders take advantage of the crisis to try and further their far right-wing ideology. Those who had been supporting the radical Netanyahu government for years aligned themselves with the Trump Administration — and saw their chance to get mainstream American Jews to get behind the newly-emboldened white nationalist movement.
But together, we fought back — we refused to give up on our community’s rich tradition of justice, took to the streets in the thousands, and reimagined what it means to be Jewish in 2017. You brought the #JewishResistance to the White House, to Trump Tower, and to over 30 cities across the country, rejecting those who cozy up to racists just to advance a set of far-right Israel policies.
We’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $100,000 from grassroots supporters like you by the end of the year.
We know that being Jewish in 2017 means fighting for freedom and dignity for all, alongside people of color, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ community, and other marginalized people.
The fight for the soul of the Jewish community is far from over. But, in this moment we feel hope — not fear. Hope in what our movement has built together in the past year. Hope in what the next 12 months have to offer if we continue to work hard.
And, one year after Trump’s election, as a direct result of that inspiring growth, our movement is winning — together with our allies, we helped beat back the Muslim Ban, we got every Democratic Senator to vote against David Friedman, Trump’s pro-settlement nominee for Ambassador to Israel, and we helped #FireBannon.
If we want to keep winning, we need to keep growing.
Please support our movement with a gift today.
