As you know, Brian Straw is currently facing down the federal government over charges that threaten our collective rights to free speech and assembly.
He is battling these charges for the same reason he was demonstrating at the Broadview ICE detention facility in the first place: because standing up for our neighbors is central to who he is.
Now, he needs us to stand with him.
Please join us at a friends and family fundraiser to help support Brian’s legal defense.
When: Saturday, January 31 from 3-5 p.m.
Where: Tacos ‘76
838 Madison St, Oak Park, IL 60302
What: Chips, salsa and the battle for free speech
Suggested minimum donation is $50, but everyone is welcome to show their support regardless of ability to pay. If you would like to attend, but cannot afford a ticket, please email info@brianstraw.com to RSVP.
Your support will make a direct difference in the national fight for democracy: Brian and his lawyer are leading the charge in crafting a defense that protects the First Amendment. Through their arguments they've already set a precedent that others facing these kinds of charges should not be made to surrender their passports at a time when federal agents are demanding papers from our neighbors. But Brian and his team still have a long way to go, and we are all preparing for a protracted legal battle.
