“This campaign isn't about me, it's about the Iowa we will leave for our children and grandchildren,” said Weiner.

Born in Iowa City, Weiner spent 26 years as a diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service. After completing her service overseas six years ago, she returned home to Iowa City where she is raising her four-year-old granddaughter. She was elected to the Iowa City council in 2019.

Janice's issues include:

• standing up to the assault on our democracy
• protecting and funding education, childcare and eldercare in Iowa
• supporting workers right to organize, to be paid a living
• restore local control to Iowa's municipal elected leaders

When elected, Weiner said the skills she honed at the U.S. State Department will make her uniquely qualified stand up for Iowa City at the Capitol.

“Telling hard truths can be brutal, but the art of diplomacy is telling people to go to hell in such a way that they ask for directions,” she said.
