Steve Cohen has represented Tennessee's 9th Congressional District since 2007. Prior to serving in Congress, Cohen was a legal advisor to the Memphis Police Department, vice president of Tennessee’s Constitutional Convention, and commissioner of Shelby County. He also served in the Tennessee Senate for 24 years and gained attention for removing the ban on the lottery, raising money for scholarships, afterschool programs, and pre-K. Cohen has also expanded access to healthcare and fought for animal welfare, reinstatement of voting rights, and funding for the arts. Cohen was elected as Tennessee’s first Jewish congressman, and despite having been the victim of antisemitic rhetoric in campaigns, Cohen is proudly Jewish and has taken a strong stance against antisemitism, calling out Donald Trump and the GOP’s numerous attacks on Jewish communities.
