Jimmy Gomez is an educator, former union organizer, and four-term representative. A son of Mexican immigrants, he grew up without health insurance and worked right out of high school at a fast-food restaurant and retail store. He enrolled in community college, transferred to UCLA, and eventually earned a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard. He began his public service as a union organizer with AFSCME CA and later with the United Nurses Association of California before running for the State Assembly. He was elected to Congress in 2017 and has since championed paid family leave, immigrants’ rights, healthcare, and the economy. He has been a strong supporter of the US-Israel relationship while in Congress, including backing supplemental security assistance to Israel, humanitarian relief for people in Gaza, and a ceasefire to ensure lasting peace in the region. He helped create the Congressional Dads Caucus to advocate for the needs of working families, including ensuring affordable and accessible childcare and expanding the Child Tax Credit.
