Jake Johnson grew up in Stewartville, Minn., with 10 siblings in a working-class family. He worked to raise money for college and, with the help of Pell Grants, attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. After graduating, Johnson spent 20 years as a math teacher in Rochester Public Schools. He also navigated complex policy and budget debates as the Governmental Relations Coordinator and a bargaining team member for his union. As a father of four and longtime teacher has seen firsthand how rising costs can affect families. His campaign priorities include lowering costs by ending the tariffs and the Iran War, tackling corruption, and investing in small towns. Johnson believes Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace and security, and supports a two-state solution in the long term. He also believes the US should continue to fund defensive weapons for Israel and humanitarian assistance for Palestinians. He has emphasized his commitment to work with the Jewish community across southern Minnesota and the country to find and advocate for the best ways to combat antisemitism and white nationalism.
