

Rep. Lauren Underwood was first elected in 2018 after beating Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren. Prior, Rep. Underwood was a nurse and health policy professional. She served in the Obama administration as a Senior Advisor in the Department of Health and Human Services. Rep. Underwood’s platform and legislative record focus on health policy. She is best known for helping to draft the “Momnibus” package, a series of proposals aimed at helping mothers with an emphasis on Black mothers. Rep. Underwood has a strong pro-Israel record, including supporting increased Iron Dome funding in 2021 and the 2024 national security supplemental to provide military assistance to Israel and humanitarian aid to Gaza. JDCA endorsed Rep. Underwood in 2020, 2022, and 2024.
