Delegate Jeion Ward is a trailblazer and dedicated public servant with a rich background in education, advocacy, and community engagement. After graduating from Christopher Newport University, she began her career as a middle school teacher before transitioning to serve as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates in 2004, representing the 87th district in Hampton. Notably, in 2020 and 2021, Del. Ward made history as one of the first Black women to chair a committee in the Virginia House of Delegates.
This year she was reappointed Chair of the Labor & Commerce Committee and several other key committees including Transportation, Rules, Communications, Technology, and Innovation. Delegate Ward has been instrumental in championing legislation to uplift working families and strengthen public education. She patroned and passed the bill to increase the minimum wage to $15 incrementally. Her dedication extends beyond the legislative realm. She serves as the President of the Hampton Federation of Teachers, advocates for those living with MS, and remains deeply engaged in various community organizations such as the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., NAACP, and Virginia AFL-CIO. With a steadfast commitment to fairness and justice, Delegate Ward tirelessly works to ensure that Virginia's laws protect and serve all its citizens equitably.
