Hello. I hope this message finds you well. I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as an Iowa House candidate for district 2. My name is Jessica Lopez-Walker (Ahugishiniwiga). I am a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. I grew up in Des Moines, IA and have been living in Sioux City, IA for over 20 yrs. I have worked at Fedex for 5 yrs and Im also a small business owner. I’m currently co-chair of the native PAC for the Sioux City school district. And co-facilitator on the Memorial March for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Children. I am also a board member for SHIP (Siouxland Human Investment Partnership). My husband and I have been foster parents for 8 yrs and we have 5 children. We are also a recruiting family for native foster families. And I volunteer at the community garden at War Eagle.

I understand the importance of state policies/bills that shape our communities. I am committed to prioritizing fairness, standing up for inequality, and making the lives of our constituents better. All of which reflect our core values. A lot of issues have affected my family and those around us. I feel that because of this and having similar demographics this makes me relatable to a lot of voters. The economy, healthcare, education, environment, immigration, women’s rights, and labor laws are able to be transformed and revamped by enabling people such as myself to stand for the people and be their voice.
Success in politics relies heavily on supporters like yourself. It also helps me defend myself against my competitor and shows them that a new time has come. Its time for change.
