Mark Takano - CA-39

Rep. Mark Takano was first elected to Congress in 2012. His commitment to social justice can be traced back to his parents’ and grandparents’ internment in Japanese American Internment Camps during World War II. Prior to his election to Congress, Takano worked as a teacher and served on the Riverside Community College District’s Board of Trustees. He was the first openly gay person of color to be elected to Congress and is co-chair of the Equality Caucus, and vice chair of the Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. He serves as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and as a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee.
