When Jovanka Beckles moved to Richmond, California — Chevron was, and is still, the largest employer in the city and the city council was staffed by politicians in Big Oil's pocket. Jovanka took Chevron to task over their rampant pollution, championing a tax law that forced the Oil Giant to pay $100+ million to the community.
